inSSIDer 1.2’s new features bring even more capability to this free and open source Wi-Fi troubleshooting tool. Available for download at www.metageek.net

Boise, ID, July 9, 2009 — MetaGeek (www.metageek.net), a leading developer of wireless network troubleshooting tools, has announced version 1.2 of the open source Wi-Fi scanner, inSSIDer. Since 2007 with the release of inSSIDer 1.0, the application has seen well over a quarter-million downloads and has been translated into almost a dozen languages, including German, Chinese, and Spanish.

inSSIDer displays and graphs information from local Wi-Fi networks using data taken from a PC’s native wireless network adapter. As with other tools in the MetaGeek arsenal, inSSIDer is a powerful tool in deploying, maintaining and troubleshooting wireless networks for small and medium sized businesses as well as the discriminating home user. Most notably, the program collects Wi-Fi information such as SSID, channel and RSSI and visually graphs them over time. New for version 1.2 is the ability to have 5 GHz band (802.11 a,n) networks graphically displayed. Also new is GPS mapping where users can get KML output for use with Google Maps which then plots-out Wi-Fi signal strength and coverage on maps or satellite photographs.

"We’re very pleased to see inSSIDer become so popular and widely used." said MetaGeek’s Chief Geek, Ryan Woodings. "And we are especially happy that the open source community has contributed some great features such as GPS mapping and 5 GHz graphing. inSSIDer has truly evolved into the Wi-Fi diagnostic tool we envisioned it would be."

inSSIDer 1.2 requirements:

32 or 64 bit Windows XP or Vista. 802.11a,b,g or n Wi-Fi adapter. GPS receiver (for GPS mapping features)
